API2PDF Now Supports Markdown to PDF
API2PDF now supports Markdown to PDF conversion with a dedicated REST API endpoint.
Developers can send raw Markdown directly to API2PDF and receive a professionally rendered PDF generated using Headless Chrome. No intermediate HTML conversion is required.
The new endpoint is:
POST /chrome/pdf/markdown
This makes API2PDF a simple Markdown to PDF API for applications that generate content in Markdown, including AI applications, documentation systems, report generators, content management systems, and automated workflows.
Convert Markdown to PDF with cURL
Here is a complete cURL example:
curl -X POST "https://v2.api2pdf.com/chrome/pdf/markdown" \
-H "Authorization: YOUR-API-KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"markdown": "# Hello World\n\nThis PDF was generated directly from **Markdown** using API2PDF.\n\n## Features\n\n- Markdown input\n- PDF output\n- Headless Chrome rendering\n- REST API",
"fileName": "markdown-example.pdf"
}'
Replace YOUR-API-KEY with your API2PDF API key.
The markdown property contains the raw Markdown that should be converted to PDF. The optional fileName property lets you specify the filename of the generated PDF.
Markdown to PDF API Request
The basic request body looks like this:
{
"markdown": "# My Document\n\nThis is **Markdown**.",
"fileName": "document.pdf"
}
The Markdown to PDF endpoint also supports API2PDF's Headless Chrome PDF options, including options for page margins, headers, footers, and other PDF rendering settings.
For example:
{
"markdown": "# Monthly Report\n\nGenerated automatically from Markdown.",
"fileName": "monthly-report.pdf",
"options": {
"format": "A4",
"printBackground": true
}
}
Why Convert Markdown to PDF?
Markdown has become one of the most common formats for programmatically generated text. It is especially useful for applications where content is created dynamically rather than designed manually.
Common use cases for a Markdown to PDF API include:
AI-generated reports
LLM and AI agent output
Documentation
README files
Technical reports
Invoices and receipts
Automated business reports
User-generated documents
Content management systems
Developer tools
CI/CD pipelines
Instead of building and maintaining your own Markdown rendering and PDF generation infrastructure, your application can send Markdown directly to API2PDF.
Markdown to PDF for AI and LLM Applications
Markdown is also a natural output format for large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI systems.
Many AI applications already generate structured Markdown containing headings, lists, tables, links, code blocks, and formatted text. With API2PDF's Markdown to PDF endpoint, that output can be turned directly into a PDF as part of an automated workflow.
A typical AI document generation workflow can now be as simple as:
LLM → Markdown → API2PDF → PDF
This is useful for AI-generated research reports, summaries, proposals, documentation, personalized reports, and other documents that users may want to download, print, archive, or share.
Markdown to PDF Using Headless Chrome
API2PDF's Markdown to PDF endpoint uses Headless Chrome as the PDF rendering engine.
The endpoint accepts Markdown, renders the document, and generates a PDF using the same Chrome-based PDF infrastructure available through API2PDF's existing HTML and URL conversion APIs.
Developers therefore get a straightforward Markdown interface while retaining access to advanced Chrome PDF generation options.
